Bicyclist education programs
There's no substitute for bicycling experience when it comes to understanding
how to ride. Similarly, there's no substitute for training experience when
it comes to understanding how to teach bicycling. We've done it all, from
giving brief presentations to elementary school assemblies to teaching extensive
on-road programs to kids and adults, to training P.E. teachers in how to
teach their own students. And we've created support materials for others
trying to do the same things. Here are a few of our projects:
- Created a 7-lesson 4th-grade in-class and on-bike curriculum, complete
with 20-minute student video and 20-minute teacher video, used throughout
the State of North Carolina and in parts of Washington, Maine, Colorado,
and Wisconsin;
- Taught teacher training workshops for this curriculum in North Carolina,
Wisconsin, and Colorado;
- Co-authored "Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety: A review of Key
program and Countermeasure Developments During the 1980's" for the
NHTSA in 1992
- Developed the most popular bicycle rodeo manual ever for the AAA Foundation
for Traffic Safety; still in print.
- Wrote "Bicycle Safety Related Research Synthesis" for the
NHTSA in 1994
- Conducted dozens of rodeos, on-bike lessons, and in-class education
sessions for a wide variety of small and large groups;
- Developed 5-lesson on-road program and taught to hundreds of jr. high
school kids;
- Developed and taught a 2-hour on-bike/on-road bicycling course for
local municipal court;
