Response from Senator Max Baucus 2/12/97:

Thank you for getting in touch with me to express your opposition to United States Postal Service (USPS) plans to move several local post offices to the outskirts of their respective towns. I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.

I have been quite busy fighting several USPS proposals to move Montana's local post offices. These moves are not only an inconvenience for those who live in small Montana towns; they are also an erosion in the commercial makeup of the fragile small town economy. Fortunately, I've been able to stop many of these moves. I have also tried to impress upon the USPS that they must take the views of local Montanans into account when they plan to move any post offices.

In order to keep the post offices in the towns, it is crucial for me to hear from folks like you. Your input is vital to me as I try to represent the best interests of all Montanans.
